"Had a great 3-day break in Edinburgh but used local restaurants rather than the hotel for a better value deal. " (97356893)

Great location easily accessible by bus to and from airport and all sights in walking distance.

An automatic 10% service charge on restaurant plus an opportunity to add gratuities too! It was too easy to pay twice! Currently most of the front of the hotel is clad in scaffolding and tarpaulin which impacted on the fine views normally achieved from rooms on this side - we had paid extra for a room with castle view but this really is not an option whilst the building work goes on although price we paid did not reflect this. Lack of generosity in replenishing bedroom tea-making items - one sachet of hot chocolate for 2 persons staying 3 nights caused a problem, and 2 teabags per 24 hours seems unnecessarily mean - advise take some extra with you.

Excellent location. Hotel well maintained and generally clean. Staff very amenable and affable.

Very expensive this time. I know it is Edinburgh Festival, but to have doubled the cost since last November seems very cruel. Indeed, a lot of money for nothing really special or anything different since last November.

"very poor ( i am a regular traveller and this is the worse hotel i have even been)" (107121223)

they messed up with bookings and some guests needed to be relocated. poor staff service esp check in. we got shouted at the check in desk. staff are very unhelpful.

"We did enjoy the hotel for the most part and the location and restaurant was perfect. The staff was most helpful and efficient. " (108098338)

Staff, room for storing baggage, size of room , restaurant, breakfast, location to sight seeing and railway.

The hotel was extremely hot in rooms, hallways, reception and restaurant. The fan, in bedroom, did help but as we came in mid July it was extremely hot. I felt that for the money we should have had some form of cooler air.

    "very good" (99812630)

very central, convenient for all sights and transport links

room very warm - unable to regulate a/c. can be quite noisy as situated on main road - could do with triple glazing.

"Most city centre hotels are probably noisy. This one is right on Princes Street, very close to the station and the airport bus so very convenient. The restaurant looks over Princes Street so you can watch the world go by as you breakfast." (97793863)

very central, very clean, easy walk from station, good breakfast, flat screen television with lots of channels

cheaper rooms are noisy, both from air conditioning from nearby premises and very poor soundproofing between rooms. However we were moved to a slightly quieter room without question

Clean, comfortable, staff friendly. Handy for all shops and attractions.

Bedrooms were too warm at night. Had to put fan on as opening window was too noisy. Bathroom was too warm due to not being able to turn heated towel rail off!

"Did know that the front facade of the hotel was being renovated - we were placed on the back. One of two elevators for the entire hotel was out of order for the duration of our stay - being 5 floors up with luggage, stairs were out of the question. Will be in Edinburgh over the next few years (this was a University visit) and will NOT stay at the Ramada again." (97768784)

    location of the hotel

tiny, tiny rooms (we booked 2) not across the hall from each other as was billed by the front desk clerk. No ventilation, no fans in bathroom to allieviate the shower steam and not a very comfortable bed.

"Overall the hotel was value for money considering its location which is as central in Edinburgh as it can be, All the staff were extremely pleasant and helpfull, There was abit of a mix up with my booking with regards to breakfast being included in my rate and when I brought it to their attention it was fixed immediatley. That said we had no hot water and at 8am the noise from the staff going about their early morning business was very loud. I also think that £11.95 is a rediculous price for a continental Breakfast." (97921642)

    Location, Pleasant and helpfull staff

We loved the location of your hotel. The size of the room was very good too, even considering the space occupied by the extra bed.

A refrigerator to keep water, juice , etc. would be useful. I found the drawers a litle small.

Was a bit noisy (from Outside)but this was to be expected as we were right on Princess Street. the hotel had smoking rooms which were separate from the non-smoking rooms, which pleased all in our party. Staff were excellent and couldn't do enough to assist. would definately recommend and use again." (97558760)

  • 3/10 Timothy ( Mature couple)

from Leppington , GB  on  October 22, 2007

"The hotel is ideally located for shopping and sightseeing. The entrance to the hotel is very dark and unwelcoming with only one life in service. Bar and restaurant area looked uninviting -it looked like a staff canteen and the windows from reception were grubby. The interior of the hotel (including the bedroom we stayed in) could do with redecorating - peeling wallpaper and chipped paintwork. Room cleaning schedule should ensure occupied rooms are cleaned in the mornings to allow guests to return in the afternoon to clean accommodation." (97096898)

    The beds were comfortable.

TV viewing was limited even with the pay-to-view options. Why not provide digital freeview channels to all rooms? Our room was opposite external air conditioning ducts that were very noisy so unable to leave windows open so bedroom became very 'stuffy'during the night. When we returned to our room at 5.00 p.m., the room had not been cleaned and nobody came.

"This hotel is located in a superb location round the corner from Waverley Station, where car hire is available and City Tour buses start. Breakfast is excellent with a good selection - not to mention the superb view from the restaurant of Princes Street and Edinburgh Castle. If you want a good base from which to explore the city this is it." (97757017)

Excellent location, good value at the price charged

Small single room. Last time I stayed at this hotel - I've stayed here three or four times - they upgraded me to a Castle View room for free which was superb and I thought indicated that they identified me as regular customer.

"I found parts of the service all aright; The desk clerk on check-in was very helpful, and the 2 maids for the rooms were wonderful, quick and efficient in their job. When I arrived, having no doorman/bell captain at the entry caused some difficulty in transfer of luggage from taxi to front desk due to stairs/heavy suitcase. Breakfast staff should have had more people. They did their very best, but were spread too thin. The dinner staff were younger girls, and it was most noticable that the single men at individual tables got preferential treatment. I overheard group tables making comment about this so I was not the only one who noticed. This was the most glaring error in the hotel's public relations, and should be dealt with. My overall impression was that there were not enough staff to allow most employees to do their job properly. I think with a little more guest care in certain areas, and staff increase, the hotel could become one of the best in Edinburgh. I would be hesitant to recommend the hotel as of now, but would gladly do so in the future if improvements were made." (99577046)

View of castle was spectacular and location great.

Great difficulty in changing reservation initially. I had e-mailed with no results, and in the end sent a letter through the post office which finally got results.

This is a disability and your web site does not state that it would cause problems for people suffing breathing disablities when aving to carry luggage to and from the hotel. • 8/10 Pilar ( Solo leisure traveller)

"The hotel’s location is unbeatable; it also has great views of the castle and parks. Rooms are comfortable (although beds were bumpy) and well equipped (TV worked great and more channels than others). It is always useful to have internet access, which the hotel offers. Breakfast was good. However, service in the restaurant was not great, it took a while to get some coffee, and they kept asking the room number (once should be enough). Overall, the stay was very good, and I would certainly recommend it." (99852333)
